It is a truth universally acknowledged that necessity is the mother of invention. So, bearing in mind our instructions to stay home and stay safe, Tim Melville is pleased to present two gallery firsts – our first exclusively online exhibition and our first exhibition featuring solely works on paper.
Paper is light-weight and tactile, allowing an artist to make a rapid sketch or recording of an idea that may not materialise on canvas or linen. Artworks made on paper can also, sometimes, offer a more intimate view into an artist’s practice and afford clues to their process of making. And because they’re often less expensive, they can allow collectors to acquire work by artists who might be unaffordable in another medium.
