Wayne Youle

Almost Nearly Kind of Maybe But ..., 12 October - 13 November 2010
Buoyed by his recent success at the Melbourne Art Fair, and by the time and freedom available to him in his current Rita Angus Cottage Residency, Wayne Youle has created an ambitious suite of large paintings in liquid acrylic for his 2010 Auckland show.

Autobiographical elements and clean graphics combine with recognisable Youle motifs of koru, kowhaiwhai, skull and rainbow to create a mash-up of cartoon, fairy-tale and graffiti. The seductive energy, vigour, and balance of this new body of work reveal the confidence of an artist at the top of his game.

Wayne Youle has recently completed a mural commission for Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu.
