Tim Melville is pleased to be participating in the 2026 Aotearoa Art Fair.
Across the first two days of the Fair we will present a solo exhibition of hand-embroidered artworks by Areez Katki created on textile fragments given to the artist by his family’s Parsi tailor in Mumbai, India.
Katki is a member of the Parsi community; an ancient ethnominority who follow the Zoroastrian faith. They were persecuted after the Islamisation of Persia in the eighth century and many, including Katki’s ancestors, fled to India.
Katki migrated with his family to Aotearoa at the age of 12.
He frames his role as a storyteller with a practice that explores mysticism, postcoloniality, diaspora and queerness within material culture.
As the recipient of the recent CNZ Berlin Residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Katki divides his time between studios in Germany, India and Aotearoa. This suite of artworks was first shown in 2025 in Innsbruck, Austria, at the Taxispalais Kunsthalle Tirol.
